How You Can Help Unexpected Wildlife Refuge

Volunteer to Help Keep UWR a Safe Haven for Wildlife

Operating a refuge takes a lot of time and energy. There is always something to do! You can help with UWR’s important work by volunteering your time (and muscle power) for the following:

  • Mowing fields for bluebird habitat and beaver food production
  • Trail maintenance
  • Making and installing new trail signs
  • Seasonal help in patrolling the refuge to deter hunters
  • Fund raising
  • Data entry for database of members, contacts and friends
  • Tour guides (after suitable training)

If you are interested in volunteering and don’t mind hard work, then let us know. You may contact UWR via mail, phone, or e-mail.

Donate to the Refuge

Unexpected Wildlife Refuge is supported entirely by private donations from individuals who have visited us or read about the refuge. The generosity of our supporters will allow us to continue to protect this special habitat and educate the public about its importance. Refuge expenses include local taxes, insurance premiums, truck repairs and insurance, and equipment maintenance. Please consider donating to our cause. You can contact UWR via mail, phone, or e-mail.

Become a Beaver Defender

Membership in The Beaver Defenders is $20/year. As a member, you will not only be supporting the refuge, but you will receive our quarterly publication, The Beaver Defender, which is filled with news of the refuge as well as stories and news from other environmental organizations. Send your check, made out to Unexpected Wildlife Refuge, to Beaver Defenders, PO Box 765, Newfield, NJ 08344-0765. Be sure to include your name and address, and, optionally, your phone and/or e-mail address.

All contributions are tax deductible. The amount of your donation in excess of actual membership dues will be considered a donation unless otherwise specified.
